Tales of a Homeschooled Teenager

If you have just started reading my blog, or just haven't picked up the "homeschooled" hints, then yes, I'll admit, I'm one of those 'weirdo' homeschoolers.
There are a lot of misconceptions about being homeschooled, so I'm going to try to explain how I do things as best as I can.
Basically I've been homeschooled since I was old enough for Kindergarden.  I went to school one year at a private school in 5th grade, but other than that my home has been my school.
Throughout my elementary and middle school years I mainly used books and sometimes took classes with other homeschoolers (most areas, at least in the U.S. have groups where homeschoolers have come together to help their kids get educated)., but now that I'm a teenager and in high school I've done my schooling mainly online, through several different online schools.
I'll admit I do sleep in later than most high schoolers, but I do have to teach myself a lot of what I learn in my classes.  I still have to take tests for my classes and I did take the ACT this year since I'm a junior, so it's not quite as easy as it seems.  Some of my friends have actually told me they are glad they aren't homeschooled because they couldn't motivate themselves to learn the subjects and do the work.  However, I do enjoy being homeschooled.  It allows me to do things I wouldn't get to do in school.  There has been times I've considered going to school especially since I've moved around a lot in the last few years and it's harder to make friends when you are homeschooled.
Speaking of friends I do have friends that are both homeschooled and that go to public school.  Some people wonder how you'd be able to make friends when you aren't in school.  Well, for my whole life I've been active in sports, girl scouts, dance, and other activities that allow me to meet people my age and with similar interests.  Homeschooling isn't that much different from regular school and different people do it differently.  It's not for everyone though and when you're in high school it definitely gets a lot more challenging to make sure you're prepared for college or whatever path you decide to take.
But that pretty much wraps up my homeschooling life, if anyone has any questions or if homeschoolers would like to add to this conversation, feel free :)

  1. Hi :)
I used to always wondering what it would be like to be home schooled :) It seems interesting but kind of hardwork. I have to admit I probably don't have the motivation to teach myself. Do your parents teach you at all?

  2. Hi! :)
Yes it is a lot of work, but worth it for me. My parents do teach me some and they help me with work when I'm having trouble. What country are you from?
