10 of my favorite things
For this week of the Blogging challenge we were asked to list 10 of our favorite things, here goes:
1. Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter - My favorite animal shelter and one of the best animal shelters in my opinion. Volunteering here has really made a difference in my life. It has helped me grow and develop into the compassionate person I am today. It has really enhanced my love for animals and has given me something to dedicate myself to. I started volunteering at the FFDAS when I was 12 years old and my experiences have helped me become more confident and responsible. Not only are the animals wonderful, but so are the people and I think that is why I have gotten so much out of my volunteer work there. Although I live further from the shelter now and am unable to volunteer as frequently as I once did, the Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter will always hold a special place in my heart. You can visit them at dearbornanimals.org or on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/DearbornAnimals?fref=ts
2. Sticking with the animal theme, my favorite animal would have to be dogs. Most of my life I've had a least one dog. Their loyalty, love, and perseverance inspire me. The first dog I had was already in my family before I was born, however I don't remember much of him because I was little when he passed away. My second dog I got as a present for my sixth birthday. I named her Roxy and she wasn't just my best friend, but my sister as I grew up. I am an only child so I did everything with her and we had an amazing bond. We got another dog when Roxy was 6 years old and named her Mimi. Roxy and Mimi had a mother-daughter type relationship. Roxy "yelled" at her when she got in trouble and helped her grow into the dog she is today. Roxy passed away not long before her 11th birthday from lymphatic cancer. It was hard on all of us seeing her slowly lose her health. She fought hard, but after 7 months we finally had to put her down so that she wouldn't have to suffer. Her strength was inspiring because of the severity of the cancer. When we found out, the Vet told us she would probably have about 2 weeks to 2 months left to live It was November at the time and I cried a lot that month and prayed that she would make it to Christmas. Christmas was one of her favorite times. She loved to open presents and you could just tell how much love she had for her family. Part of the reason why I think dogs have such a shorter life than us is because they give so much love in that short amount of time. If humans had that much loyalty and love in their hearts they would become angels sooner too. I think we can all learn something from animals because of their determination and will to live. I have many fond memories of Roxy, and Mimi continues to be a great joy in my life. I never want to spend my life without a dog if I don't have to. It's amazing how much happiness an animal can bring.

3. Moving away from animals now, my favorite movie is 27 dresses. I like movies that involve weddings because nowadays it seems some of the magic of weddings has gone away. It makes me happy to see people going about the traditional way of getting married and then having kids. I also like the fact that in 27 dresses you get to see all of the bridesmaid dresses that Jane (Katherine Heigl) wears, 27 of them! She sure has had a lot of practice as a bridesmaid. It also makes me excited for the day I get to be a bridesmaid and even more excited for the day I get married. Hopefully I'm not a bridezilla. ;)
4. My favorite season is fall. I love seeing the leaves change color and feeling the crisp autumn air. The crunch of the red, orange, and yellow leaves under my feet is music to my ears. There's just something magical about fall to me. Oh, and also my birthday is in the fall, so I guess I was born to love fall time.

Some fall leaves.
5. My favorite holiday is Christmas. It is my favorite holiday because of all the time I get to spend time with my family. My family means a lot to me and I love making memories with them, and Christmas is a great time for making memories. I don't care if I receive a lot of presents all I need is my family. Christmas also makes me get in the spirit of giving. I love to give and Christmas brings out my compassionate and caring side. I think this side exists within all of us whether we like it or not. Sometimes we just need to reflect more on our values and realize that karma is important. How do we expect to get things from life without giving? And by giving I don't mean you have to go buy things for people or donate to a charity. Giving can mean free service to charities and people who need help. Just by saying kind things to people you are giving the gift of cheer. And it shouldn't be just Christmas that brings out our cheery side.
6. My favorite vacation - Throughout my life I've been blessed with the ability to explore new places. Although I have yet to fulfill all my travel dreams my favorite vacations would have to be with my loved ones. However, my favorite vacation is when I went to Florida with my Grandma for over two weeks. Not only did I get to spend quality time with her, but I also got to go to Sea World and the beach. I also am incredibly proud that I wrote a novel while in Florida! I took part in the Nanowrimo write a novel in a month challenge and completed it. It was incredibly satisfying to be able to do this and it definitely made my passion for writing stronger. Here is a video I made of some of my adventures in Florida: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93mVLgE6kNs My cousin and her cousin (my friend) post all kinds of videos to that channel so please check them out and subscribe if you'd like :)
7. My favorite singer is Taylor Swift. I've been listening to her music ever since she grew popular, but my favorite album would have to be her new one Red. I am going to see her on Saturday and I am so excited! It is my first Taylor Swift concert! I will try to post photos and/or videos of the concert soon if I can. The reason I enjoy her music so much is because of how relatable it is and I also like the fact that she writes her own music. Many people don't realize that a lot of popular artists don't write their songs and to me that makes me wonder if they actually care about the lyrics they are singing. When they sing about their own experiences and feelings it is a lot more inspiring to me than if some songwriter writes it for them and it becomes a hit because they are famous.
8. My favorite book would have to be Twilight. I enjoy the Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer because it is different and I enjoy the chemistry between the characters. Although I wouldn't strive for the relationship Bella and Edward have, I still enjoy the storyline and the adventures the characters go through. It was hard for me to pick a favorite book because I have so many. I love to read and often post reviews on goodreads.com about the books I have read.
9. This one is a bit different, but I have chosen my favorite senior picture of myself. As many of you may or may not know I am a senior in High school this year and last summer I got my senior pictures taken by one of my friends who is an aspiring photographer. I am in love with some of the photos she took. She is an amazing photographer. Her website is: http://www.riuttaimages.com/ and here is my favorite photo (it was hard to choose!)
10. Last, but not least is my favorite social media network. I decided to add this in because in today's world it seems like everyone is on at least 1 social network. I'd have to say my favorite is Facebook just because that's where I keep in contact with the majority of my family and friends. Otherwise I do enjoy Instagram for posting photos from my iPod as well, but Facebook is fun because it allows you to see what your loved ones are up to and see pictures of all the exciting things they are doing. You can also play games, which I don't normally do, and create events, "like" pages, and write statuses of course.
I hope you enjoyed my post about 10 of my favorite things. Feel free to comment about your favorite of my favorites or write some of your favorite things. :)
