Raising a Puppy

Puppies are cute, cuddly, and fun, but it can be difficult to train them if you don't know how.  The dog my family has currently turned 7 this year, so it's been awhile since she was a puppy, however, I still remember it like it was yesterday.  There are positives to getting a puppy, but there are also positives of getting an adult dog.  The biggest thing would probably be housebreaking.  It can be pretty frustrating trying to make sure your puppy doesn't have accidents.  Chewing is also another concern.  Puppies, just like babies, are growing and getting teeth is a part of that.  With chewing comes biting and mouthing puppies.  No one likes to be a human chew toy, so it is important to train your puppy not to bite you.  Here is an article I found recently that might help those of you training a new puppy: http://shibashake.com/dog/puppy-biting-how-to-stop-puppy-bitingI also encourage new puppy owners to take their puppies to a training class at a dog training facility or pet store.  Socalization is very important when dogs are young.  Training classes not only help you socalize and teach your pup new tricks, but also helps establish the bond between you and your new best friend.
