What Summer Means to Me

Summer vacation is upon most of us college students.  Although this time of year may mean different things to different people, to me it brings up memories with family and friends.  It brings back images of the beach, the lake, sunshine, and my family's annual vegetable garden.  I envision myself on road trips, on picnics, and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.
Although for many of us, summer may not be as relaxing as we had hoped for, hopefully it includes following our passions and moving forward toward our dreams.  For me, this summer means learning Italian, interning, hanging out with friends, and enjoying every moment of my time at home.  Despite cringing at the fear of hot weather, to me summer means joy, rekindling of bonds, and most of all making the most of my free time, exploring new places, and discovering more about myself.  The weather is nicer for outdoor activities, holidays mean more time with family, and to me summer means warmer weather, joyous memories with family and friends, and looking forward to a bright future.
Some of my favorite memories include swimming at Lake Superior with my childhood dog Roxy, celebrating graduations and holidays with family, going to concerts with close friends, and road trips with my parents.  There is something about warm sand between my toes and a cool summer breeze that makes all my worries disappear.  The fact that I'm on summer vacation already seems crazy to me, but I'm ready to embrace it and make some wonderful new memories.

Looking back at pictures from past summers makes my heart happy.  The picture above is from when Emily and I tried out my double bike.  Bike rides in the summertime are one of my favorite things to do.  And being accompanied by friends, family, or my dog Mimi makes it even more enjoyable.
