Thursday: My life would be very different if....
My life would be very different if I my volunteering at the Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter had never happened. I do not think I would be as facinated and amazed by animals as I am today. If it weren't for the FFDAS do not think I would as much joy as I do now when I'm with animals.
The FFDAS not only impacted me in the sense I got to hang out, care for, and play with animals, but the shelter staff saw my animal expertise and put me to work helping with dog training, showing animals to potiential adopters, and working with dogs most kids my age weren't allowed to work with. The reason why I was given so much responsibility is not just because I had a connection with the animals, but because they trusted me and my judgement of situations.
One of my favorite things to do while helping out at the FFDAS was helping the dog trainer with temperament testing the dogs. It was really fascinating to see how the dogs reacted to getting their food bowl touched, sniffing cats, etc. As I got more involved at the shelter I was able to do more during the testing, such as taking notes, being a stranger (to see how the dog was with people it didn't know), etc. It was a lot of fun working with the dog trainer, and my times at the shelter were some of the best memories I have of living downstate. :)
I don't think my life would be the same if it weren't for the Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter.
